The Girl and the Monster (怪物と少女 Kaibutsu to Shōjo) is the 35th chapter of Hiro Mashima's Edens Zero.

In the western forest, Jamilov is visited by Homura, who asks to join his ranks after hearing him said he works with Drakken Joe. Meanwhile Shiki and Hermit return to the town as the others fight against Magical Beast Army.

Summary

In some part of the western forest, Jamilov is eating when he is suddenly visited by Homura. He recalls meeting her yesterday and asks if she really should be here as the town is under attack, saying that she has guts coming to him alone. Homura recalls that he said that he works with Drakken Joe and asks to join his ranks. Meanwhile, Shiki and Hermit are escaping the flying monsters that are in pursuit of them. Shiki uses Gravity Cannon to blast most of them and Gravity Tackle to stomp the last one. Hermit remarks how those are Ziggy's powers, which Shiki informs that he was taught them from him. Hermit asks how he took his powers, but Shiki reasserts that Ziggy taught him. Shiki tells her that not all humans are bad, but she gloomily states that humans don't have hearts. Shiki agrees that some humans don't, but as Hermit was friends with Ziggy then she is friends with him as well.

In the town of Crysta, Rebecca and the others continue to fight the Magical Beast Army. Weisz complains about not being able to use his Ether Gear, which Pino agrees, wanting to use her Electromagnetic Pulse to disable them. The NPCs run from the monsters when a little girl trips. Just as the imp monsters prepare to kill her, the Shinobi Troll saves her. He reiterates his character description, being the town's guardian spirit, and decides to protect the town despite his fear. Guiron mocks him for being a sub-boss but the Shinobi Troll returns the insult, saying that the bird monster doesn't even have a backstory. Just then, Shiki kicks Guiron in the face and beats more of the oncoming monsters.

The little girl NPC thanks the Shinobi Troll, calling him Shino, making him blush. However Jamilov arrives and orders the imps to fire, but the Shinobi Troll uses his body to shield the townsfolk and falls after taking a large number of arrows. An imp's crossbow is taken from it and Homura aims it at the little girl, but Shiki rushes to protect her, taking a hit on his shoulder. Jamilov is surprised that Homura would actually try to kill her own ally. However, she coldly states that Shiki is not her ally, much to the shock of the others.
