Connor (コナー Konā?) is a man from the Aoi Cosmos.[2] He was the helmsman of Edens One in Universe 1[3] and 2.[4] However, in Universe 3 he is instead a former member of the Freedom Force.[5] He becomes the Edens Zero's helmsman after joining them.[6] During the Kaede War, it was revealed that he is the father of Rebecca.
Appearance
Connor is a portly elderly man with short, gray hair, thick eyebrows, and a mustache.[7] A tattoo reading "EDENS ONE" is on the back of his left wrist.[3] In Universe 3, the tattoo instead says "FREEDOM FORCE".[5]
When the Crew of Edens first met him, he wore a dark and light-colored spacesuit that has a bubble helmet.[8] He later uses the Dress Factory of the Edens Zero, making him new clothes, consisting a dark suit with a light belt and pants, an overcoat draped over his shoulders like a cape, a white peaked cap with a red band and black bill, along with an insignia that resembles a sakura blossom. He describes this outfit as befitting for a captain.[9] In Universe 2, his outfit remains unchanged, with the insignia instead resembling a fish pointing upward and the colour being black.
Personality
Connor is an eccentric individual who always maintains a calm and serious composure that belies his easygoing and friendly nature, as well as his perverted urges.[10] When on the helm of a ship, he takes his duties with utmost seriousness and will do what he can to aid his newfound comrades, having become close with all the members of the Edens Zero's crew despite his short time with them, having bonded with them in his own eccentric ways.[11] No matter the Universe, Connor always insist of being addressed as "Captain".[2]
After the jump to Universe 2, the events of the Edens One's destruction never occurs, thus Connor became the cold captain of the Edens One under command of the revived Demon King, who he obeys faithfully, even his most ruthless of orders. Despite this, a faint memory of the former timeline remained within him which he perceived as only a dream, but a dream he was clearly fond of, as he fondly remembered the dream as feeling like he was being embraced in the warmth of a family.[4] When faced with the Demon King's command to destroy the Edens Zero, he briefly hesitated, trying to reason with the Demon King that the crew posed little threat, but in the end, he obeyed the Demon King's orders as a faithful crewman.[12]
In Universe 3, as Connor was never hired to be Ziggy's helmsman, he is more fearful of Ziggy and after learning that the factory he worked in belonged to Demon King he fled from Lendard.[13]
Synposis
Sun Jewel arc
After his ship is destroyed, Connor floats around in space among the spacefaring fish, holding onto the ship's steering wheel in his hands. Upon noticing the Edens Zero, he asks for their help. He is brought inside the ship and thanks them for rescuing him, introducing himself as a captain of a ship that was destroyed in a horrible accident. He explains that he held on to the ship's wheel and ended up drifting in the Sakura Cosmos until they saved him. When his stomach growls in hunger, he is given food and drinks, talking with his mouth full. He explains that he is from the Aoi Cosmos and wants to speak to the captain of the Edens Zero which Witch presents Shiki, the Demon King, to him. Connor is intrigued that the crew is filled with women, children, and androids and did not think the differences of Cosmoses and their cultures. Connor then declares that he will be the captain of this ship much to Shiki and Rebecca's immediate rejection. After being given a room in the Residential Quarters to rest, Connor spends his time as a guest on Edens Zero. Where he mistakes the Spa of Eden to be a mixed bath, which gets him immediately kicked out by Rebecca, uses the Dress Factory to give him clothes for a captain, asking what would happen if Mosco's button is pushed, teaching Pino inappropriate language, and spends time conversing with Shiki as his new friend.[10]
When Connor pilots the Edens Zero unauthorized, Witch lividly sees it as a last straw and the Crew of Edens confront him at the bridge of the ship. However, Connor informs that he was told that their trip would take three days to get to Sun Jewel, but that he can get them there in one day, revealing they have arrived to the Planet of Gemstones. Connor boasts that Edens Zero has magnificent abilities, and if given a magnificent captain, then naturally, he will make the ship perform even better. Hermit is shocked of his feat and finds it impossible even at the maximum speed, which Connor simply explains that he took a shortcut through the space debris field, impressing Shiki and Rebecca. He goes to get some sleep, but not before Witch questions who he is, Connor simply replies that he is the captain and walks away from the Bridge. Removing his left glove, he wonders to himself if it is a coincidence or destiny, and adjusts his hat, revealing himself to be the captain of Edens One.[11]
Connor remains quiet and impassive when Weisz complains that thanks to Connor bringing them to Sun Jewel faster, he needs Hermit's help to finish the new weapon that he is developing and that he does not trust Connor to be with the Four Shining Stars and Mosco on Edens Zero. Meanwhile, the captain teaches Pino inappropriate language again much to Hermit's disapproval.[14]
Connor silently listens to the crew as they discuss about Valkyrie's death and Homura's decision to become the new Sword of Edens. He watches as Sister leavs with Witch following shortly after.[15]
Belial Gore arc
World No. 29
After Witch defeats the intruders, where the two androids had self-destructed, leaving them with Maria captured for interrogation, Connor and the others investigate their spaceship and the damage done to the Edens Zero. Connor informs them that the beam cannons is what broke through the Edens Zero's shields and turned the Guarnanium armor into paper. He deduces that someone gave the ship's weapons Ether Gear capabilities.[16]
When the Edens Zero is taken over, Connor is held at gunpoint by Diego who snuck behind him. Diego tells him that he is lucky because of the orders to not kill any humans. Connor states that he thought the two self-destructed, but Diego explains to the him that it was Seth who self-destructed while he used Stealth Mode to make them think he also did it. Connor is shocked to see Seth appear on the monitors and report to Diego that he has taken over almost all of the ship and explains how he shut down all of the androids on board.[17]
World No. 30
Due to Rebecca's actions of using her awakened Cat Leaper that created World No. 30, the Edens One's destruction did not happen, leading to Connor never meeting them.[18][19]
Edens One arc
On the Edens One, Connor has faint memories of his time with the Crew of Edens from the previous timeline, perceiving them as strange dreams. When a bot informs him that they are receiving a signal and asks if something is wrong, he answers that he has just been having strange dreams, describing it as being wrapped in the warmth of a family. He brushes it off and sets course for the planet Granbell, keeping his promise.[4]
After arriving on Granbell[20] and picking up Ziggy from the planet[21], Connor hailed the Crew of Edens Zero from orbit between two ships, shocking Rebecca that he was on the Edens One in World No. 30. Ziggy stands behind Connor as he explains the Edens Zero was merely a prototype of Edens One and its awakening, his former ship and its crew will cease to exist.[22]
When Ziggy orders Connor to destroy the Edens Zero, Connor briefly hesitated. He tries to reason with the Demon King that the crew posed little threat and they are women and children on board. However, Clown from the Four Dark Stars playfully reminded Connor that they are only paying him for his piloting skills and he should do his job as a professional. Connor explains that he is part of Edens One because he agreed with Ziggy's ideals which Wizard promptly states that Edens Zero is threatening those ideals and will be blocking their path one day. Connor finally complied Ziggy's orders, cutting off contact with the Crew of Edens before he opened fire with Edens One's weapons at the Edens Zero, breaking through its Ether shields and armor. Connor piloted the Edens One to ram the Edens Zero directly. His enemy ship evaded the ramming but Connor expected this and had the Edens One's side guns open fire, further damaging the Edens Zero. When the Edens Zero bombarded the Edens One with anti-Ether mines and tries to make an escape, Connor notices this attempt and boasts that no ship in the cosmos can outrun him, giving pursuit.[23]
The captain intercepted the Edens Zero's Scorpion Missiles with the Edens One's high tech missile defense system and then deployed the Bee Small Battle Drones to stop his enemy's ship in its tracks with Wizard standing on top of one of the drones to handle the Edens Zero's unmanned fighters. With the ship pinned down by the Bee Small Battle Drones, Connor declares that it's the end of Edens Zero as he charges the Edens One's Star Bringer and fired. However, the captain is shocked when the Skull Fairy intervened and destroyed the Bee Small Battle Drones enough for the Edens Zero to dodge from the Star Bringer's blast on time. Connor is ordered by Ziggy to withdraw for now due to the threat Elsie Crimson of the Oración Seis Galáctica poses and that the Edens One won't escape from battling her unscathed at its present stage.[24]
