Princess Guard (妖精の騎士(プリンセスガード) Purinsesu Gādo?, lit. "Fairy Knight") is a pair of elite members of Elsie's Pirate Crew who serve as the bodyguards of Elsie Crimson of the Oración Seis Galáctica. She entrusts them with intel gathering and keeping secrets from the rest of her crew on the Skull Fairy.[1]

History

According to Elsie, Gowen and Hyoga used to be a firefighter and a doctor, respectively, before becoming space pirates and members of the Armored Space Pirate's crew as her Princess Guards under unknown circumstances.[2]

Synopsis

Foresta arc

After Jesse is exposed as an agent of the Galactic Intelligence Agency by Elsie in front of the crew, Gowen and Hyoga appear on the bridge of the Skull Fairy and reveals to have helped their leader on finding out the spy infiltrating her flagship. Gowen reassures a worried Behrman and the crew that he and Hyoga made all the important intel untransmittable and fooled Jesse into thinking that he had sent it to the Cosmic Government without being noticed, declaring that none of the information was leaked. While Hyoga suspects that it is just a coincidence that the Interstellar Union Army fleet led by Justice of the Oración Seis Interstellar found them in the Coral Sector. However, the two Princess Guard members start bickering over who Elsie came to them for help first. But later they stop when Jesse lividly declares that she will never beat the Interstellar Union Army, upsetting Hyoga and Gowen. After Jesse was ejected from the Skull Fairy to the Angel Feather in a space pod, Gowen and Hyoga agree that they should be doing better background checks for every new member of the crew and states that this would not have happened if Elsie did not just take anyone who comes along. However, they simply concede with their leader's insistence to continue welcoming new members into the Skull Fairy and follow the example of the Edens Zero being a family.[3]

Upon arriving on Foresta, Gowen and Hyoga are with Elsie and the rest of their crew where they are confronted by a mob of hostile Machines. Gowen is briefly confused when Hyoga and Elsie deduce that something is wrong with the bots turning hostile against their will. The two Princess Guards witness Elsie's Star Drain and her visible transformation of her outfit with the Ether of Foresta, flustering at the sight before they scold Behrman for looking at her in excitement like that.[4] Under Elsie's orders to rescue Homura from custody[5], the two Princess Guards confront Victory and Creed and informs them that the pillar of Ether's signature similar to Justice's was from their leader herself. They briefly bicker after Victory calls them Elsie's #2 and #3 before engaging the two Interstellar Union Army soldiers in battle, confident that with their belief in Elsie as their creed, they will be the ones who are victorious.[6] However, when the Verdant Planet is affected by Xenolith's Magimech Attack: Gravity Center on a massive scale, the two Princess Guards are surprised and affected by the intense gravity.[7]

After the intense gravity is gone, the Princess Guards witness Creed releasing Homura from his Ether Lock before the giant Victory could step on her. A bemused Gowen comments that the soldiers do have a conscience which Hyoga tells him that technically they are "the good guys" before they introduce themselves to a surprised Homura that they are from Elsie's crew. When Creed explains that the Interstellar Union Army does not kill for no reason, Gowen grumpily points out that they do lock up people for no reason. After Victory states that Homura's association with the space pirates gives them the right to lock her up, Hyoga with a glare retorts that he does not know who gave them the right but they have no intention of yielding to a power that would steal their freedom. As Homura escapes with her friends, she thanks them for their help, making the Princess Guards smile. Although, Hyoga then tells Gowen, who intends to bar Victory from pursuing Homura and her friends, that it is time to retreat as he is concerned about their leader.[8]

Back at the Skull Fairy, Gowen is flustered and tries to brush it off while Hyoga is glad that the Crew of Edens are alright when Elsie tells Shiki and his friends to thank them for rescuing Homura. After the Armored Space Pirate explains about the Oración Seis Interstellar to the Crew of Edens, Gowen guesses that they are a helpful bunch for normal law-abiding space voyagers which Hyoga then comments that to the space pirates, they are a load of trouble.[9]
