Machines (機械 Kikai?), also known robots or bots, are a race of mechanical beings who exist in and outside the Sakura Cosmos.[1]
Description
Machines come in many different types and models, ranging from the simplistic bots of Granbell to the more lifelike androids.[1] They serve many different purposes depending on what model they are, with some having unique roles such as actors for an amusement park,[2] battle,[3] or even for spying.[4]
Machines often suffer from discrimination, where Hermit was surprised to see humans and bots working together in the same place in Newton[5], and some people on Oedo consider a robot raising a child to be wrong.[6][7]
Machines have a much longer life span as they don’t particularly age as organic life, the oldest so far being about over 1000 years old.[8]
Machines can die just as Humans and other life forms. Should a bot die, it is technically possible to heal and rebuild its body with the right resources, as well as uploading the machine’s memory, thoughts and personality information that’s been backed up in a cloud storage. However, the robot will still not be completely the same as before as it’s impossible to reproduce neurotransmitters such as endorphins and dopamine, therefore while the bot can still have the memories of loved ones, but will have lost the feelings built up from the time spent with them. Essentially being a whole different robot while the original version remains permanently dead.[9]
O-Tech
Jinn explains about the O-Tech in Universe 0
O-Tech (半分機械 Ō Tekku lit. "Half-Machine") are beings with cybernetic bodies or modifications, making them half-Machines.[10] Like Machines, the O-Tech also suffer discrimination, where Britney scolds Mora for his disparaging comment that could offend Orc[11], Müller used to make fun of mechanical humans but now admits how great it is to be one himself[12], and Jinn was bullied at the Skymech Dojo for being a cyborg when he was studying there.[13] It is possible for an O-Tech to be fully converted into a Machine.[8]
Powers and Abilities
Space Survivability: Some machines are able to survive in the vacuum of space unprotected with no negative effects.[14]
Aquatic Adaptation: Some bots do not have any issues with breathing or communicating while underwater.[15]
Ether Optimization: Some machines are capable of Ether optimization that could be easily mistaken for an Ether Gear.[16]
Ether Gear: Some bots are able to use Ether Gear.[17][18]
